The Taxes Are Coming!
The Tax Tsunami On The Horizon
Posted 07/21/2010 06:41 PM ET
Fiscal Policy: Many voters are looking forward to 2011, hoping a new Congress will put the country back on the right track. But unless something's done soon, the new year will also come with a raft of tax hikes — including a return of the death tax — that will be real killers... more here

Britain Plans to Decentralize Health Care
By SARAH LYALL
Published: July 24, 2010
LONDON — Perhaps the only consistent thing about Britain’s socialized health care system is that it is in a perpetual state of flux, its structure constantly changing as governments search for the elusive formula that will deliver the best care for the cheapest price while costs and demand escalate... more here

Just Say No to the Energy Bill!
Son of Cap and Tax
The destructive fine print in Harry Reid's energy bill.
In the Mad Mad Mad Mad World that is Senate energy politics, Democrats want a climate bill, really they do, even as they deny that they favor a climate bill at all. "Those words are not in my vocabulary," Majority Leader Harry Reid said last week when asked about cap and trade. Meanwhile, the White House, green groups and industry will continue their closed-door negotiations until the moment the bill comes to the floor as early as Monday... more here

(CNSNews.com) – Dr. David Blumenthal, the Obama administration's National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, said on Tuesday that patients can choose to omit procedures such as abortions and positive HIV tests from the electronic health records (EHR) that every American is supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the economic stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year... more here

Will Atlas Shrug?
Atlas Shrugged's Timeless Moral: Profit-Making Is Virtue, Not Vice
By YARON BROOK
Posted 07/20/2010 06:44 PM ET
In the years leading up to 2008—09's financial meltdown, government control over mortgages, interest rates and America's banking system was at an all-time high.
And yet when crisis struck, free enterprise took the blame.
The cure, therefore, was to give government even wider powers. Washington can now bail out any company, fire CEOs, override contracts and print billions of dollars to "stimulate" the economy — all in the name of the public interest. The result? Our deficits and debt continue to mount, and there's a real possibility of a future like Greece's.
This is the state of our world today. It's remarkably similar to the state of the world in Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged," a mystery story about a future America whose economy is disintegrating and whose government is accumulating power faster than anyone thought possible.... http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/540970/201007201844/Atlas-Shruggeds-Timeless-Moral-Profit-Making-Is-Virtue-Not-Vice.aspx

Left on Wright
Stating the Obvious...
Documents show media plotting to kill stories about Rev. Jeremiah Wright
By Jonathan Strong - The Daily Caller | Published: 1:15 AM 07/20/2010
It was the moment of greatest peril for then-Sen. Barack Obama’s political career. In the heat of the presidential campaign, videos surfaced of Obama’s pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, angrily denouncing whites, the U.S. government and America itself. Obama had once bragged of his closeness to Wright. Now the black nationalist preacher’s rhetoric was threatening to torpedo Obama’s campaign.
The crisis reached a howling pitch in mid-April, 2008, at an ABC News debate moderated by Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. Gibson asked Obama why it had taken him so long – nearly a year since Wright’s remarks became public – to dissociate himself from them. Stephanopoulos asked, “Do you think Reverend Wright loves America as much as you do?”
Watching this all at home were members of Journolist, a listserv comprised of several hundred liberal journalists, as well as like-minded professors and activists. The tough questioning from the ABC anchors left many of them outraged. “George [Stephanopoulos],” fumed Richard Kim of the Nation, is “being a disgusting little rat snake.”
Others went further. According to records obtained by The Daily Caller, at several points during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate... read more

White House: We lied when we denied the insurance mandate was a tax

A Commentary by Tony Blankley
Wednesday, July 14, 2010
... it could be said that no one can rightly be called an American legal scholar who does not understand that the unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are the animating purposes of all our laws -- of the law. They are the soul of our Constitution. Without those rights, the body of law is a corpse -- a soulless, purposeless, manipulable, disposable, dead, material thing. If Ms. Kagan does not know that, then she knows nothing of our law... read more

The Obama-Pelosi Lame Duck Strategy
Union 'card-check,' cap and trade, and so much more.
JULY 9, 2010
The rush to recess gives Democrats little time to pass any major laws. That's why there have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don't want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.... more here

Is This Health Care Bill "Rational"?
Health law risks turning away sick
By Julian Pecquet - 07/01/10 07:13 PM ET
Administration officials insist they can make changes to the program to ensure it lasts until 2014, and that it may not have to turn away sick people. Officials said the administration could also consider reducing benefits under the program, or redistributing funds between state pools. But they acknowledged turning some people away was also a possibility.... http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/106887-health-law-risks-turning-away-sick
