DEDE DUMPS HERSELF!

I guess miracles do happen in NY politics!

State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava (R) announced on Saturday she would suspend her campaign to fill former Rep. John McHugh’s open House seat, citing dismal poll numbers just days before the much-hyped special election.

Her exit from the race offers serious momentum to Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate who has stolen from Scozzafava a slew of important GOP endorsements and donations in recent weeks.

“Today, I again seek to act for the good of our community,” Scozzafava wrote in a letter to supporters, obtained by the Watertown Daily Times. “It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so.”

NY23: 'Do You Believe in Miracles'?

By Robert Stacy McCain on 10.28.09 @ 6:08AM

The complete list of Hoffman endorsers is a long one, and seems to include nearly every Republican except Newt Gingrich and Dede Scozzafava, the later of whom is Hoffman's opponent, and the former her only prominent supporter. According to the two most recent polls, the liberal Republican Scozzafava is now in third place, while Hoffman has pulled ahead of Democrat Bill Owens.... http://spectator.org/archives/2009/10/28/ny23-do-you-believe-in-miracle

Take back the Party! - By DOUG HOFFMAN - 23rd Congressional District in upstate New York

Last Updated: 5:01 PM, October 25, 2009

Posted:  12:26 AM, October 25, 2009

The 23rd Congressional District in upstate New York is locked in an election battle that echoes far beyond Watertown. When the local Republican party nominated Assembly member Dede Scozzafava, some conservatives balked, objecting that her positions (on gay marriage, abortion and spending) are too liberal. Local businessman Doug Hoffman decided to run as the Conservative Party candidate to oppose both the Democrat, Bill Owens, and Scozzafava in the November election. Hoffman tells The Post why the Republican Party needs to return to its base.

At this time, three months ago, I was wrestling with a decision. A decision as to whether or not to run in a special election to fill the seat vacated by the new secretary of the Army, John McHugh. If you had told me 90 days later I would be penning an op-ed piece for the New York Post, I would have laughed in disbelief. I would have laughed even louder had you told me that I would be receiving endorsement and support from political leaders like Fred Thompson, former Majority Leader Dick Armey, or Sarah Palin. Or appearing on broadcast media with national audiences, as their hosts peppered me with questions about the future of the GOP and our nation.

You see I’m not a professional politician; I’ve never sought elected office. I grew up poor in Saranac Lake, in the heart of the Adirondacks. My siblings and I were raised in a single-parent household by our mother. We worked to help her pay the mortgage. But, like so many others in this great land, I worked hard, got a good education, did a six-year stint in the military, married, landed a good job with a “big eight” accounting firm and started living the American dream.

It’s funny what can happen in America, when you are able to dream and have the courage to follow your dreams. At 27 I was hired as controller of the organizing committee for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Three years later I bought the accounting firm that employed my mother. Now I have six offices spread across the northern reaches of New York and a dozen other small businesses in the Adirondacks that employ my wife, children and hopefully someday, my grandchildren. I am living the American Dream.

The reason I’m running for office is to ensure that others share the same opportunities.

Sadly, that dream is quickly becoming a nightmare. Unemployment grows, .............. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/take_back_the_party_ASPo06GnWtIO2Wsstyd3NM

Group uses new media in climate-change debate

Objective is to show cost

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

A new advocacy group seeking to expose what it says will be the high cost of climate-change legislation to consumers is spreading its message with the same tools that catapulted President Obama into office: blogs, Twitter and other new media outlets.

The Cost of Energy Information Project (CEIP) is the latest addition to the dozens of ad hoc organizations pressing lawmakers on Capitol Hill to consider the bill's effects before casting a vote. This group, backed by energy-producing interests, is clearly in the anti-legislation category.

The group plans to reach outside of the Beltway to engage citizens who, organizers insist, have been excluded from the lawmaking process .....................

...................... The group's Web site, www.costofenergy.org, features an "energy cost calculator" that estimates how much a person's energy costs would rise if the climate bill passed by the House this past summer were enacted. Only American Free Enterprise Can Meet Our Nation's Job Challenge

By Thomas Donohue

With the economy slowly returning to form, we must now focus on a new challenge--putting America back to work. It won't be easy--the economy has shed 7.2 million jobs since the beginning of the recession, and unemployment is at its highest level in more than 25 years. We must create 20 million new jobs over the next decade simply to put the unemployed back to work and to keep up with a growing population. There's only one system that's proven capable of meeting this goal--American free enterprise.... http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/10/14/only_american_free_enterprise_can_meet_our_nations_job_challenge_98699.html

This was the most honest exchange we've heard recently. Michael admits that government doesn't do what the people want it to and that we really don't have a true capitalistic system now. Fear of losing their present insurance trumps the government option, and they don't want to pay for increased taxes to pay for health care reform. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/healthcare/september_2009/health_care_reform

Last week at the Society of Environmental Journalists conference in Wisconsin, former Vice President Al Gore took questions from journalists about global warming for the first time in years. I attended to ask him about factual errors in his movie, "An Inconvenient Truth."

You wouldn't know it from the sparse media coverage, but the British High Court found so many errors in Gore's movie in 2007 that British schools no longer can show the film without the equivalent of a health warning.

I asked Gore if he intends to correct the record. He dodged the question, and the so-called reporters defended his right to be evasive by shutting off my mic.... http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=509026

My First Trip to Washington DC

September 18th, 2009 | Author: Lyleann McClellan-Thee

My first trip to DC was to participate in the Taxpayers March September 12th. The history of the city is awe-inspiring, and to be there for such an occasion was truly humbling...

Concern for country was the generic reason given for being there, but the atmosphere was one of hope and optimism. We still do have a say in our government, even if we have to remind our politicians just who works for whom! It is not too late, but it is time to act. Even if the only outcome of this march is that it afforded the chance to meet with like-minded citizens from all across America, I would deem it a success. However, I believe it will achieve more than that. How could any politician wanting to be re-elected at some point in time, not pay attention to an event such as this, drawing as many people as it did, literally shutting down the streets of our Nation’s Capitol?! Well, I say, only at his or her own peril... http://www.sanangeloteaparty.net/2009/09/18/my-first-trip-to-washinton-dc/#more-276
